Technically, Tunney's Pasture refers to the 121-acre area in Ottawa that has been completely designed for buildings belonging to the Canadian federal government. However, there are areas right outside of that space that the residents also call Tunney's Pasture, and the term has now generally come to refer to the federal building area and the neighborhood that is immediately outside of its boundaries. There are 10,000 employees in the federal government complex, with more in the surrounding neighborhood. While that provides limited options for residential living in that area, there are still some excellent choices.
It can be a great choice for those who work in the federal government buildings, because they don't have a long commute and can be available on nearly a moment's notice. The transitway serves the area well, so getting to and from the government area is not difficult and a car is not necessary for those who do not live far way. Once you've found a home in Tunney's Pasture, you'll want to start settling in and making it feel like your own.
Options for shopping and dining are limited in the area due to the expansive number of government buildings, but you're close to plenty of great areas where you can shop. Ottawa is home to a significant number of malls, strip malls, and individual shops, so you can easily find furniture and decor for your new place without the need to travel far at all. You're just a few minutes from downtown, and while you're out shopping you may want to stop in and have a fine meal or a quick snack at a great local restaurant, as well. Before you know it, Tunney's Pasture will really feel like home.
