The Rideau Canal Skateway has opened for skating for the 45th season. It's a 3.6-kilometre section of ice from the Bank Street Bridge to Somerset Street, except for Patterson Creek. It will be open to skaters starting on January 11th, which marks the 200th birthday of Sir John A. Macdonald. He was one of the Fathers of Confederate.

This Canadian icon is one of the most popular places to enjoy skating within the city of Ottawa. It's a unique venue with plenty of ice to enjoy. As long as the skateway remains thick enough, it will remain open for skaters.

The Rideau Canal Skateway sees about 17,000 visitors per day once it opens. It's a very popular place to enjoy the city. Many anticipate the opening of the Rideau Canal Skateway every year because of the large amount of ice it provides. This is by far the most unique outdoor skating rink in Ottawa and maybe in all of Canada.

The Mobile Application for iPhone and Android from the Rideau Canal Skateway can help provide ice conditions, a map of the Skateway and a listing of services available within the area. You can even use this app to track your distance and your skating speed. A souvenir photo of your time on the ice can be taken with the "MittCam," as well.
